What does Linus mean?
Linus means “Traditionally associated with flax”.
Linus is the Latin form of Greek Linos, traditionally connected with the Greek word for flax. In mythology, Linos was a musician and teacher, although the stories about him differ. The name also has an early Christian connection through Linus, traditionally counted as the bishop of Rome after Peter.
Modern associations are unusually varied. Chemist Linus Pauling received Nobel Prizes in both Chemistry and Peace, while Linus van Pelt is the thoughtful, blanket-carrying character in Peanuts. Those bearers place the same old name in science and popular culture as well as religion and myth. Linus keeps its compact ancient form, with no need for a longer formal name behind it.
