Lisa

Lisa is a short form from the Elizabeth and Elisabeth family, ultimately connected with a Hebrew name traditionally interpreted as “God is my oath.” It became established as an independent given name across several European languages. Choosing Lisa therefore does not require a longer form on formal documents.

Lise and Lissa are related spellings, while Elisabeth makes the full family connection visible. Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa gives the spelling a widely recognized artistic association. Lisa’s two syllables and simple written form can be useful for families moving between languages, although vowel sounds may vary. It can also honor an Elizabeth while preserving a familiar relative’s everyday name.
