Lori

Lori developed as a familiar form of Laura and as an alternative spelling of Laurie. Through Laura, it connects with the Latin word for the laurel tree. Laurel wreaths were associated with victory and distinction in the classical world, giving this brief name a botanical history as well as a familiar modern sound.

Lori became especially recognizable in the United States during the middle of the twentieth century. Its compact spelling works as a complete given name, while Laura provides a longer option within the same family. Laurie and Lorie preserve much the same English sound. The different spellings reflect naming preferences rather than different plants or separate symbolic meanings, which can be helpful when honoring a relative.
