Louisa

Louisa is a feminine form of Louis, ultimately connected with the Germanic name Ludwig and the traditional meaning “renowned warrior.” Its final a gives it a different rhythm from Louise while preserving the same name family. Related forms include Luisa and Swedish Lovisa, each with its own language conventions.

Author Louisa May Alcott offers a lasting literary association, especially through Little Women. Lou and Lulu provide shorter everyday options, while the full name has a more formal three-syllable shape. A family honoring a Louis or Louise can use Louisa to retain the connection while choosing a distinct sound and spelling for a new child.
