Lucienne

Lucienne is the feminine form of French Lucien. Both belong to the Latin Lucianus family, which developed from Lucius, a name associated with lux, meaning light. Lucienne consequently shares its deeper root with Lucy and Lucia, but it reaches that root through its own Lucien branch rather than simply lengthening Lucy.

British textile designer Lucienne Day gives the name a notable creative association. Her Calyx fabric became a landmark of postwar design, adding a modern artistic strand to a name with much older linguistic roots. Luciana is a related feminine form used in several other languages. For families exploring names meaning light, Lucienne offers a distinctly French spelling and ending, with a history that connects ancient Latin naming to a recognizable twentieth-century designer.
