Lula

Lula is a familiar name that can stand alone or connect with several longer names beginning with Lu. When it comes from Louise or Louisa, it belongs to the Germanic family meaning famous in battle. A connection with Lucy instead leads to the Latin root for light, so one meaning cannot cover every Lula.

The name has a long independent history in American naming and appears in fiction as well as family records. Lula Landry is a character in The Cuckoo’s Calling, published under J. K. Rowling’s Robert Galbraith pen name. Lula can also be an affectionate family form without a formal longer name behind it. The intended namesake or full-name connection supplies the most specific explanation of its meaning.
