Macie

Macie is a spelling of Macy, a name that reached English through a surname with French place-name connections. Its older geographical meaning is less certain than the neat translations sometimes attached to it. For a family choosing Macie, the clearest description is a surname name with a softer, nickname-like ending.

Macie, Macy, and Maci usually share the same sound, so the decision is largely about written style. Maisie looks similar but commonly has a different middle consonant sound and a separate history. Macie works as a complete given name; there is no need to supply a longer formal version just because it ends in “ie.”
