Marbella

Marbella is the name of a coastal city in southern Spain, on the Costa del Sol. As a personal name, it carries a clear geographical connection with the Mediterranean coast. The often-repeated explanation “beautiful sea” is an appealing association with Spanish words, while the city's older name has a more uncertain history.

The Spanish double l is an important part of how the city name sounds, and an English-speaking family may choose its own familiar pronunciation. Saying the name aloud alongside a surname can help clarify that preference. Marbella offers the possibility of honoring a place, a journey, or a family connection to Spain, with a full name that already has a recognizable setting.
