Marleigh

Marleigh is a modern spelling of Marley, a name that comes through English surnames and place names. Those places do not all share one first element, although a woodland clearing appears in several explanations. The attractive phrase “pleasant seaside meadow” should not be treated as the settled translation of every Marley or Marleigh.

The leigh ending preserves the familiar lee sound while giving the name a longer written shape. Marley and Marlee offer simpler spelling comparisons, and Mar is a possible informal shortening. Parents honoring a family surname may prefer its original form; those choosing the sound independently can weigh how often they are comfortable introducing their preferred spelling.
