Mauricio

Mauricio is the Spanish form of Maurice, descended from the Latin name Mauritius. That name is connected with Maurus, referring to a person from ancient Mauretania in North Africa. Although baby-name lists sometimes reduce the meaning to “dark-skinned,” the geographical and historical background gives a fuller explanation than a modern description of appearance.

The name belongs to the same international family as Maurice, with the final io giving the Spanish form its distinctive ending. Former Argentine president Mauricio Macri is one recognizable bearer. Mauricio can carry a family connection to another Maurice-family name while retaining a clearly Spanish form. Its ancient regional root does not establish the ancestry or appearance of any person who bears it today.
