Maximino

Maximino is a Spanish and Portuguese form of the Latin name Maximinus. That name developed from Maximus, whose meaning is greatest or largest. The additional ending belongs to an older name formation, so Maximino has a history of its own rather than being a recent attempt to lengthen Max.

Maximus, Maximinus, and Maximino show three stages of the same family as it moved from Roman naming into later European languages. The final -o fits Spanish and Portuguese masculine naming patterns, while Maximin is a related French form. This gives Maximino a longer rhythm than Maxim without changing the central root. For a family preserving a Spanish- or Portuguese-language name, the full form can be the important inheritance even when shorter relatives are more immediately familiar to English speakers.
