Mayra

Mayra is a Spanish-language form of Myra, a name with a literary history rather than a securely established ancient translation. Myra was used by the English poet Fulke Greville for an idealized woman in his writing. Possible explanations include a connection with myrrh or a rearrangement of Mary, but neither should be treated as certain.

The spelling Mayra gives the name a distinct life in Hispanic naming traditions. Its appearance can suggest Maya or Maire to English-speaking readers, yet those similarities do not prove a shared origin. For parents, Mayra offers an established form with both literary ancestry and a specific language setting. A family namesake may provide a more personal meaning than any proposed dictionary interpretation.
