Mazikeen

Mazikeen was created for a character in Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics and later became familiar through Lucifer. Its inspiration was the Hebrew term mazzikin, referring to harmful or troublesome spirits in Jewish folklore. The personal name is therefore a literary creation drawing on an older folkloric word.

For a family considering Mazikeen, the character and the underlying meaning are both useful parts of the story. The name's full form makes the fictional reference fairly explicit, while its Hebrew inspiration supplies a separate cultural background. Its long, flowing shape and distinctive opening give it a strong identity on the page. A family's attachment may be to the character, the sound, or a personal association with the story.
