Melodie

Melodie is a spelling of the musical name Melody, influenced by French mélodie. The word ultimately comes from Greek elements associated with song and singing. It describes the recognizable sequence of notes in music, giving the personal name a direct artistic connection rather than a hidden symbolic meaning.

The ie ending distinguishes Melodie from the English word spelling, while French normally adds an accent as Mélodie. A family may choose the unaccented form for ease of writing in English or because it matches a relative’s name. The musical association remains the same, though pronunciation can vary by language. Melodie is a complete word name, so it does not need to be explained as a shortened form of something longer.
