Miah

Miah can be a spelling of Mia, which often developed as a short form of Maria or Mary. The oldest meaning of Mary is uncertain, so “drop of the sea” should not be given as a settled translation of Miah. In a different family context, Miah may instead be a shortening of Jeremiah, which has its own Hebrew meaning.

Swedish opera singer Miah Persson is a notable bearer of the Mia-style name. Her spelling demonstrates an established use beyond a simple recent addition of h. The two possible naming routes can also lead to different pronunciations, making the family's intended sound especially useful. Miah's history is best explained through the longer name or tradition actually intended.
