Milagros

Milagros is the Spanish plural of milagro, meaning “miracle.” As a personal name it often comes from a Catholic devotional tradition, including titles of Mary associated with miracles. The plural ending is part of the established name and is not an English grammatical addition.

Mila can be used as a familiar form, though that short name has several independent histories and does not always refer back to Milagros. Milagro is the singular word and a related name. A family may choose Milagros for religious devotion or to express gratitude for a child’s arrival, but the literal meaning remains miracles rather than a prediction that the bearer will perform them.
