Minnie

Minnie has a long history as an affectionate short form, especially for Wilhelmina. Through Wilhelmina it connects with Germanic elements for will or desire and a helmet, traditionally understood as protection. However, Minnie has also been used for other full names and independently, so that one derivation does not explain every bearer.

Minnie Mouse gives the spelling an immediately recognizable popular-culture association. Actress Minnie Driver offers a different example: her birth name is Amelia, showing how a familiar short form can acquire an individual family story. Parents choosing Minnie itself can treat it as the complete name rather than assuming a longer form is required. Its older nickname tradition also makes it a natural fit for families exploring vintage names with an informal everyday feel.
