Miranda

Miranda comes from a Latin form meaning worthy of admiration or wonder. Shakespeare used it for the daughter of Prospero in The Tempest, making the play its central literary association. The name's history therefore combines a meaningful Latin formation with a specific character rather than a long line of ancient Roman bearers.

Mira and Miri are familiar shorter options. Myranda and Maranda are spelling comparisons, while the full Miranda commonly has three syllables in English. Singer Miranda Lambert and writer Miranda July are recognizable modern bearers. A family may favor the literary connection or the meaning without requiring every short form to share the same independent origin.
