Mishael

Mishael is a biblical Hebrew name formed as a question: who is what God is? The wording expresses the idea that God is incomparable. Its resemblance to Michael is understandable because both names contain elements referring to who and God, but Mishael has its own form and biblical identity.

In the Book of Daniel, Mishael is one of Daniel’s companions and receives the Babylonian name Meshach. That connection gives the name a recognizable story even to readers more familiar with the later name. Choosing Mishael brings attention to the Hebrew name used before that renaming. The final -el links it with many other Hebrew names, while the middle sound keeps it distinct from Michael and its language variants.
