Moise

Moise is a Romanian form of Moses and also resembles the French spelling Moïse when accents are omitted. The name Moses has a complex history: an Egyptian connection with a word meaning born is widely discussed, while the biblical story explains it through being drawn out of water. Those are different accounts of the name’s origin and association.

Moses’ story gives the name its central religious setting, including the Exodus and the giving of the law. Moise carries that connection through a particular European form rather than creating a new meaning. The Romanian Moise and French Moïse can differ in pronunciation, so a family’s language background is useful when introducing it. The short written form preserves a large biblical history in just five letters.
