Nicolo

Nicolo is a form of the Italian name Nicolò, related to Nicholas. The older Greek elements refer to victory and the people. Written with its Italian accent, Nicolò places emphasis on the final syllable; Nicolo is the form often used when accents are left out of English-language records.

The name has a long Italian history, including a musical association with the violin-making Amati family. Nico is a well-established short form, keeping the opening of the full name. Parents comparing Nicolo with Nicholas can preserve the same meaning while choosing a different language tradition. Niccolò is another Italian form, with a doubled c as well as the final accent.
