Oden

Oden is the Swedish form of Odin, the name of a major god in Norse mythology. It traces back to Old Norse Óðinn and a word associated with inspiration, intense feeling, and frenzy. Those meanings reflect the complexity of the mythological figure, whose stories connect him with poetry and wisdom as well as battle.

Choosing Oden gives the name a specifically Swedish appearance while keeping its mythological connection easy to recognize. Odin is the form many English speakers will know first, so the ending may occasionally need spelling out. The name's literary and cultural background is stronger than a simple description such as “wise”: wisdom belongs to the god's associations, while the older word behind his name has a wider, more forceful sense.
