Ofelia

Ofelia is a Spanish and Italian form of Ophelia, a literary name based on a Greek word associated with help or benefit. Its history as a personal name belongs to Renaissance literature rather than to a famous figure from ancient Greek mythology. Shakespeare's Hamlet made Ophelia especially well known, and Ofelia carries that literary family into other languages.

The single f gives Ofelia a spelling that fits naturally within Spanish and Italian, while preserving its connection with Ophelia. The story in Hamlet is tragic, but the underlying word has a positive sense of assistance. Parents may value the name's sound, its literary history, or its place in a family language independently of any one fictional character.
