Omer

Omer is a Hebrew name connected with a sheaf of grain and an ancient measure. It is especially familiar through the counting of the Omer, the seven-week period linking Passover and Shavuot in Jewish practice. That gives the name an agricultural image and a specific place in the religious calendar.

The same Latin letters can represent unrelated names in other languages, including Turkish Ömer from Umar and the French saint’s name Omer. Those histories do not all share the Hebrew grain meaning. A family choosing Omer through Hebrew tradition may value the harvest connection, the season of counting, or an inherited family name. Keeping the intended language clear allows the short spelling to carry its own precise story without combining different names into one.
