Omri

Omri is an ancient Hebrew name best known from the biblical king of Israel. Its meaning is not securely settled. One explanation connects it with a Semitic root concerning binding and interprets it as servant; another familiar interpretation is “my sheaf.” Neither should be treated as an unquestionable translation simply because the name has a clear biblical identity.

The royal Omri was a military commander who became king in the ninth century BCE. The biblical account judges his conduct negatively, so the historical association is more complicated than a general image of kingship. Even with that background, Omri has continued as a personal name. Its four letters preserve an old Hebrew form without the longer endings found in many other biblical names, making it a concise option with a substantial history.
