Ori

Ori is a Hebrew name meaning “my light,” built from or, “light,” with an ending that makes the meaning personal. The result is more intimate than simply naming light itself: it can express the place a child holds in a family’s life. The image remains clear in the original language rather than relying on a later symbolic interpretation.

The name is only three letters in English but normally has two syllables, giving it a little more movement than its length suggests. It works as a complete name rather than needing an expanded form. Parents comparing other Hebrew light names may notice shared sounds, but similar-looking forms can have different endings and meanings; Ori’s particular distinction is the simple, affectionate “my light.”
