Osiel

Osiel belongs to the Hebrew Uziel or Uzziel name family, traditionally interpreted as “God is my strength.” The relationship is documented in historical Jewish naming: Osiel appears among older forms associated with Uziel in Spain. It is therefore more than a recent name assembled simply because it resembles other names ending in -el.

The biblical Uzziel is a son of Kohath and brother of Amram, giving the wider family a specific scriptural connection. Oziel is another related form, while Osiel is familiar in Spanish-speaking use. Azriel may look similar but has a different Hebrew construction, so it should not be treated as an interchangeable spelling. The strength element is central to Osiel’s own explanation.
