Priscila

Priscila is the Spanish and Portuguese form of Priscilla, a Latin diminutive of Prisca. Prisca comes from a word meaning old or ancient, sometimes interpreted more warmly as venerable. The shorter single-l spelling is an established language form rather than simply a recent simplification of English Priscilla.

In the New Testament, Priscilla and her husband Aquila are early Christians associated with Paul. The texts also use Prisca for her, linking the fuller and shorter forms within the same historical tradition. Priscila preserves that biblical connection while fitting Spanish or Portuguese spelling and pronunciation. Families may choose it for faith, a relative, or an interest in a name shared across several languages with recognizable classical roots.
