Rania

Rania is an Arabic name also written Raniya or Ranya. It is commonly connected with a verb meaning to gaze or look intently, although that derivation is best treated as an interpretation rather than a certainty. The different English spellings reflect ways of representing the same Arabic name in Roman letters.

There is also a separate Greek route: Rania can be a short form of Ourania, a name connected with the heavens. Ourania belongs to the name family of Urania, the muse associated with astronomy in Greek mythology. These histories give Rania more than one cultural setting, but they do not combine into one literal meaning. A family's language and intended longer form help establish which story belongs to their choice.
