Rayleigh

Rayleigh is an English place name, familiar from the historic town in Essex. Its older elements are commonly explained as a roe deer and a clearing, giving the place name a woodland setting. This provides a concrete historical route for the given name alongside modern choices influenced by names such as Raylee.

The town's name is recorded in medieval history and belongs to the same broad geographical naming tradition as many English surnames. A family may choose Rayleigh for a place connection or because it combines familiar sounds in a longer form. The written leigh ending keeps the old clearing element visible. That history offers a specific landscape association without requiring a newly invented meaning from Ray and Lee.
