Raziel

Raziel is a Hebrew name commonly understood as secret of God, combining a word for a secret with the divine element El. It is especially associated with Jewish mystical tradition, where Raziel is an angel connected with hidden knowledge. That gives the name a different background from names centered on people in the biblical narratives.

The title Sefer Raziel, often rendered as the Book of Raziel, belongs to a tradition of mystical writings associated with the angel. These are religious and literary associations rather than a historical biography of a human bearer. For parents drawn to names with a contemplative or mysterious quality, Raziel offers a specific Hebrew construction and a substantial tradition behind it.
