Riccardo

Riccardo is the Italian form of Richard, a name built from Germanic elements meaning ruler and brave or strong. The doubled c is characteristic of this Italian spelling. Ricardo, with one c, belongs chiefly to Spanish and Portuguese usage, so the small written difference helps distinguish related names in different languages.

Its connection to Richard makes Riccardo a natural way to continue a family name while expressing an Italian background. The final o and the longer spoken rhythm give it a different shape from the English form without changing the underlying meaning. Riccardo has an established life as a complete given name, and a family does not need to choose an English nickname for it. Keeping the Italian spelling preserves that language connection clearly.
