Rina

Rina has several independent histories. In Hebrew, it belongs to the word family for joyful singing or a cry of joy. In Italian and other European use, it can be a familiar form of longer names ending in rina, including Caterina and Marina. The meaning of those short forms follows the longer name rather than the Hebrew word.

Rina is also a Japanese given name, where its meaning depends on the chosen kanji. Singer Rina Sawayama is a recognizable bearer of that Japanese tradition. These uses share a Latin-letter spelling without sharing one origin. A family choosing Rina can keep its own language connection clear, whether the important story is song, an honored relative, or a particular Japanese written form.
