Sabrina

Sabrina is the Latin name associated with the River Severn in Britain. Its deeper origin is uncertain, but the river connection is well established. It also appears in legend and literature as the name of a river figure, giving the geographical name an additional storytelling history.

Milton’s Comus uses Sabrina, while the film Sabrina and Sabrina the Teenage Witch offer very different modern associations. Brina and Bri are possible short forms. Families choosing it for the river meaning can distinguish that older connection from the television character; neither depends on treating Sabrina as a variation of the unrelated name Serena.
