Sampson

Sampson is an established spelling of Samson, the biblical name connected with the Hebrew word for the sun. The inserted p does not create a separate root or change the name's inherited meaning. Sam is a straightforward shortened form, while the full name keeps a recognizable link to the story told in the Book of Judges.

The biblical Samson is remembered for extraordinary strength, his relationship with Delilah, and the loss of his strength after his hair was cut. Those narrative associations explain why the name can feel powerful, but strength is not its literal translation. Sampson also occurs as a surname, giving this particular spelling a life in family records as well as biblical naming. Samson is the simpler spelling to compare when deciding which form best suits a family tradition.
