Shira

Shira comes from Hebrew vocabulary for song or singing. It is closely related to shir, the ordinary word for a song, giving it a direct connection with music and poetic expression. The name’s meaning can be understood without adding claims about a child’s future musical ability or personality.

In Jewish tradition, shirah also appears in the language used for important biblical songs, including the Song at the Sea. Modern bearers such as actress Shira Haas show the name’s established life beyond a particular scriptural passage. Shirah is another English spelling of the same Hebrew form. The fictional name She-Ra may sound similar to some readers, but it has a different origin; Shira’s own history is grounded in Hebrew language and cultural use.
