Starr

Starr is a spelling of the English word star, used as both a surname and a first name. The final r gives it the appearance of a family surname while leaving the celestial meaning easy to recognize. Stars offer a direct natural image, with ideas of light, distance, and the night sky surrounding the word.

The spelling can be especially meaningful when Starr is already part of a family's history. Star makes the ordinary English word more visible, while Starr can preserve an inherited surname exactly. Neither requires a particular religious or mythological story. Parents may connect the name with a favorite place to watch the sky or with someone they wish to remember, adding a personal meaning to its straightforward astronomical foundation.
