Sylvan

Sylvan belongs to a Latin name family associated with woods and forests. It is related to Silvanus, the Roman deity connected with woodland and the countryside, and to the Latin word silva, “forest.” The English adjective sylvan preserves that same wooded landscape association.

Silvan is a related spelling used in several European languages, while Silvanus retains the longer Latin form. Sylvan has also appeared as a given name in older American records, giving it a history beyond current nature-name fashions. For a family drawn to woodland imagery, it offers a direct linguistic connection with trees while remaining a complete personal name with its own established usage.
