Tallulah

Tallulah is associated with Tallulah Falls in Georgia and has an uncertain older place-name origin. The popular translation “leaping waters” is disputed, so it should not be presented as a verified Choctaw meaning. A similar Irish name, Talulla, has a different history and should not automatically supply Tallulah with a second meaning.

Actress Tallulah Bankhead provides a well-known historical bearer. Tally and Lula are possible shortenings, giving the longer name more compact everyday forms. Families drawn to its waterfall association can value that real geographical link without needing a certain translation of the place name. The distinction preserves the natural image while keeping the cultural origin honest.
