Tatiana

Tatiana comes from the Roman name Tatianus, ultimately connected with Tatius, a name of uncertain meaning. Its history includes Saint Tatiana and a long tradition of use in Eastern Orthodox communities, including Russia. It is not a name with an established literal translation such as “princess,” even though historical royal bearers may create that association.

Tatiana appears in Pushkin’s Eugene Onegin and the opera based on it, giving the name a strong literary presence. Tatyana and Tatjana reflect other ways of representing it across languages. Tati is an easy shortening, while Tanya is an established related form. Parents can choose the full, flowing Tatiana while keeping several practical options for a more informal everyday name.
