Thaddeus

Thaddeus is a New Testament name with an uncertain earlier origin. An Aramaic connection is often proposed, and it has also been compared with Theodore, but “gift of God” is not a secure translation of Thaddeus itself. Its biblical association with one of the apostles is better established than a single linguistic explanation.

Thad and Tad give the formal three-syllable name shorter everyday options. Thaddaeus is a related written form. For families seeking a name with a long Christian history, that tradition may matter more than resolving its ancient root. Comparing the full spelling and nickname together can help decide whether the contrast in length feels useful for daily life.
