Tiana

Tiana is often used as a short form of Tatiana, whose older Roman name-family meaning is uncertain. It may also shorten other names ending in a similar way, so one translation cannot cover every Tiana. The name’s familiar sound does not establish a direct meaning of “princess,” even though that association is now well known.

Disney’s The Princess and the Frog gives Tiana a prominent fictional namesake. Tia is an available shortening, while Tianna provides a closely related spelling. Families may choose Tiana because of that character, a relative named Tatiana, or the name itself; keeping those reasons distinct gives its story more precision than a borrowed royal definition.
