Toni

Toni is a familiar form used across the Anthony and Antonia name family, including names such as Anton, Antonio, and Antonia. Their older source is the Roman family name Antonius, whose meaning is uncertain. The popular translation priceless does not have a secure basis in that history.

In English-speaking communities, Toni is especially familiar for women, including novelist Toni Morrison and actress Toni Collette. In several European languages it is also an established masculine form. Tony is a close English spelling, but the final letter does not create a universal rule about whether a name belongs to boys or girls. Toni can honor a longer family name or be chosen independently, with its cultural setting supplying the most useful context.
