Tori

Tori is an established short form of Victoria, carrying the Latin meaning “victory.” It can also be used independently as a full given name. The same Latin-letter spelling occurs in Japanese contexts, where a bird-related word or different written characters may supply a separate meaning.

Singer Tori Amos and actress Tori Spelling make the short form familiar in English. Those associations do not require every Tori to have Victoria as a formal name. Families choosing it through Japanese tradition should preserve the intended characters rather than borrowing Victoria’s meaning, while a Victoria honor name can make its own linguistic connection explicit.
