Uriah

Uriah is a Hebrew biblical name traditionally interpreted as Yahweh is my light. It appears in the Old Testament, giving it a religious history independent of later fictional characters. Its ending belongs to a family of Hebrew names containing a reference to God, rather than being an invented modern suffix.

Uria and Uriya are related spellings. Some readers may think of Uriah Heep in Charles Dickens's David Copperfield, but that literary association does not replace the biblical name's meaning. The full name commonly has three syllables in English. A family choosing it may prioritize its scriptural connection, its light meaning, or an inherited name.
