Valery

Valery can be a feminine spelling related to French Valerie or an English transliteration of a masculine Russian name. Both routes connect with the Roman name Valerius and the Latin idea of being strong or well. The shared spelling therefore has a common older root but different language histories and modern uses.

Valerie is the closest familiar feminine comparison in English, while Valeriy helps distinguish the Russian masculine form on the page. Pronunciation and stress can differ substantially between them. A family’s language and intended bearer provide important context, rather than assuming every Valery is simply the same name with a final letter changed.
