Veronica

Veronica developed from the Berenice name family, whose Greek elements refer to bringing victory. Its spelling and religious story were also associated with the phrase “true image.” These are connected parts of its later history, not a reason to merge both explanations into one original translation.

The traditional story of Saint Veronica gives the name a Christian association. Vera and Ronnie are possible nicknames, while Veronika is a spelling used in several languages. Families choosing for a particular relative or tradition may prefer one written form. The longer name remains complete whether or not an informal shortening is used.
