Vesper

Vesper comes from Latin vocabulary for the evening and the evening star. It brings to mind the transition from daylight to night, giving the name a natural connection with twilight. The related word vespers refers to evening prayer in Christian traditions, adding a long history of religious and musical use to the same word family.

A separate literary association comes from Vesper Lynd in Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale, a character later portrayed in film adaptations. That fictional use helped make Vesper recognizable as a personal name beyond its Latin and church settings. Parents may therefore encounter several layers at once: an evening image, a term from worship, and a literary reference. Each is part of the name’s story, although a family can choose the association that matters most to them.
