Vinny

Vinny is an English familiar form of Vincent, whose Latin ancestry is associated with conquering or prevailing. The shorter name keeps the beginning of Vincent and adds a familiar ending. It can be an everyday nickname for a Vincent or a complete given name in its own right.

Vinnie is a close alternative spelling, while Vince offers a shorter form without the final syllable. The film My Cousin Vinny gives the exact spelling a recognizable comic association. Those cultural references are separate from its older Latin name history. For a family honoring a Vincent, Vinny offers an immediate connection while allowing a more informal official name if that is the form they prefer.
