Violette

Violette is the French word and name for the violet flower. It is related to English Violet and Spanish Violeta, with each language giving the same floral idea a distinct sound and written form. The flower is associated with a purple color, but Violette’s botanical meaning is more specific than simply naming every shade of purple.

Vi and Vivi are possible informal short forms, though the full Violette has a graceful rhythm of its own. English readers may initially pronounce it like Violet, while French usage separates its vowel sounds differently. Families can choose the language form they intend to use and compare Violette with its relatives beside the full surname.
